Biomedical Image Analysis Division

BIA team photoThe Biomedical Image Analysis Division (BIAD) broadly supports each of the RII’s other divisions through scientific research, image processing and data management services.

Imaging core.  Image processing software is customized in-house to accommodate conducting complex data analysis and visualizations.  Because the support and flexibility of BIAD, researchers are free to choose between established validated methods and novel experimental ones.

Also have access to GENIE cluster.  And TACC.

BIAD consists of four sections:

System Administration Section

BIAD maintains several servers for when requirements are too much for desktop computers. These servers include application servers for image analysis, database servers, and web servers for our software packages.

Data Analysis Section

BIAD uses several many analytical software packages for image analysis and statistical parametric mapping, including the FMRIB Software Library (FSL) from Oxford and MATLAB with a variety of toolboxes.

Database R&D Section

The Research Data Archive (accessible only within the UT Health San Antonio network) includes all the biomedical images and auxiliary data required for analyzing RII data.

BIAD also supports the BrainMap database, which contains content-indexed results of several thousand publications within the brain mapping literature and facilitates rapid meta-analysis.

Software R&D Section

BIAD-developed software includes Mango, our image viewer and editor, with many built-in image analysis tools.
