Education at RII
Our Programs
RII scientists hold faculty appointments in departments offering graduate degrees within UT Health San Antonio Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS). In the graduate programs listed below, RII scientists are full members of the graduate program faculty. They are able to serve as mentors (Dissertation Committee Chairs) and to advocate for students seeking admission.
Radiological Sciences
Offered by UT Health San Antonio GSBS, this program prepares students to develop and share knowledge of the uses of radiant energy forms in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Biomedical Engineering
This a joint program that draws upon the biomedical engineering and clinical scientists of UT Health San Antonio and the engineering and basic science faculty at UTSA.
M.D./Ph.D. Program
The dual degree M.D./Ph.D. Program is for students who are committed to becoming physician-scientists. It is a seven-to nine-year program, rated 5th out of 113 nationwide in 2015-2016.
Integrated Biomedical Sciences
IBMS is a multidisciplinary program with seven specialties that allows students to customize their degree. It is a part of UT Health San Antonio Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS).
Translational Sciences
Jointly offered by UT Health San Antonio, UTSA, UT Austin, and the UT School of Public Health Regional Campus in San Antonio, this program applies new research to improve clinical outcomes.

Other Programs
Access to RII research resources is also possible for students enrolled in graduate programs other than those listed above. This typically requires having a RII faculty member as co-Chair of your Dissertation Committee. Students from the following programs have exercised this option in the past:
